Lee Chong WeiMalaysia’s top badminton player Lee Chong Wei is using this week’s Japan Open as his only warm-up for the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006. Lee, the second seed for the tournament from 10-15 October in Tokyo, has opted to miss competitions in China, Holland and Denmark because his personal coach, Li Mao, wants him to give undivided attention to his preparations for the Games. And Yap Kim Hock, Malaysia Team Coach, said: “We have given him only one chance to go all out there and win the title. A good showing will certainly put him in the right mood ahead of the Asian Games.” Lee will be seeking an improved display from his last outing at the World Championships in Madrid on 22 September, where he was the top seed, but was surprisingly ousted in the quarterfinals by China’s Bao Chunlai. The pair could meet in the semifinals in Tokyo and Yap added: “We hope that there will be a match between Chong Wei and Chunlai . “The defeat by the Chinese in Madrid had demoralised Chong Wei and the whole team. I know that Chong Wei is eager to settle the score.” Malaysia’s Hashim brothers, Hafiz and Roslin, will also be taking part in Tokyo in their build-up to the Asian Games. contact us site map faq terms of use brand protection print version ©DAGOC 2006.
